About the Journal

The African Journal of Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence (AJDHAI) is an open-access scholarly journal established by the Pan African Health Informatics Association (HELINA) to serve as the premier platform for research at the intersection of technology and healthcare in Africa. Its core mission is to advance the ethical and equitable application of digital tools and artificial intelligence to address the continent's unique health challenges, from improving diagnostic access in remote areas to strengthening public health surveillance systems. By focusing specifically on the African context, the journal prioritizes research that is not only technologically innovative but also grounded in local realities, considering factors like infrastructure limitations, sociocultural dynamics, and policy environments to ensure solutions are sustainable and scalable.

Published biannually, AJDHAI operates under a rigorous double-anonymized peer-review process and adheres to international publication ethics standards. It covers a comprehensive scope, including AI and data science for health, digital health interventions, health system infrastructure, and critical policy and governance frameworks. The journal provides immediate, free access to all content under a Creative Commons license, maximizing the reach and impact of African-led research. Ultimately, AJDHAI aims to build a cohesive academic community, shape evidence-based policy, and accelerate a digital health transformation that improves health outcomes and strengthens health systems across the continent.
